Pirelli on the World Tour…while I spend most of my riding time now for fun and getting things done, I’m still interested in high performance. Pirelli delivers both and the nontubeless setup in my garage has been running P Zero clinchers ($50 on Amazon) since they launched.
Today, the let the media know they’re equipping Trek-Segafredo with tires.
Great tires.
I don’t know I’ll ever ride a tubular again, but I’ve got the wheels to do so too. And, it’s remarkable to me, Tour contenders are still riding them. The reigning UCI world champion Mads Pedersen and Vincenzo Nibali, will compete on Pirelli’s P Zero Velo Tubular tires.
The pros stick with tubulars because of tradition. They don’t fly off the rim during a puncture, like a clincher can and a tubeless will do.
Pirelli’s partnership with the Trek-Segafredo is technological, like FI. Pirelli views the Tour like an open-air laboratory for products that will eventually become commercially available.
I don’t think tubeless will ride the tour anytime soon, but would sure like to see the outcome of Pirelli on the World Tour advance the tech. The riding disc now, so there’s hope. What I also appreciate about Pirelli’s marketing, is their tires aren’t that expensive ($50 on Amazon), considering how well made they are.
